East seals provide a superior design over standard  silicone O-rings. By molding the Quad Ring seals into a connected network and forming a gasket, the four-lobe design feature of the Quad Ring is multiplied over the entire transmission surface that requires sealing. The connected seals "seat" more consistently with less effort requiring less assembly time for a perfect fit.

Benefits of the Quad Ring design are: (1) Two sealing surfaces within each seal multiplies the point of contact for greater seal protection; (2) With two sealing surfaces, each seal requires less squeeze to maintain a tight, leak-free fit. This also creates less friction important in dynamic seal applications; (3) Reduced squeeze promotes longer seal life so equipment operates longer without maintenance; (4) Provides a seal surface free from parting lines which can cause leakage (parting lines are common with ordinary rubber O-ring seals); (5) No spiral twist, which can cause seal rupture using ordinary O-ring seals.

Transfer molded of nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), the Quad Ring material has good compression set and is resistant to oil, fuel and other chemicals. NBR also withstands a range of temperatures from -40°C to +108°C, making it ideal for vehicular sealing applications.

For this application, the rectangular network of rings measured approximately 14 X 15 x 3/8 inches to fit the transmission gearbox. 33 Quad Rings with 1-inch diameters have multiple spacings in the gasket network. A larger, 1-5/8 inch oval and a 1-1/4 inch round Quad Ring act as centering points when assembling the web of seals. Approximately 1,000 of these gaskets are molded a month as part of a long-term partnership supply program between Minnesota Rubber and Plastics and its major agricultural equipment customer. For similar sealing applications, any number of Quad Ring seals in custom diameters and thicknesses can be molded into a continuous web gasket.
